After the feat of the Mariana Trench, with the epic expedition of the Deepsea Challenge by David Cameron, ROLEX's next challenge moves to land and to the speed record for a motor vehicle. The Geneva-based maison will join the 1000mph club by right because it will be the technical partner of the Bloodhound SSC project, where SSC is the acronym for Super Sonic Car, the project developed in England, whose goal is to set a new land speed record.

Its participation has seen the maison involved in the development of two very particular analogue instruments, a tachymeter and a chronograph which will be integrated into the cockpit of the ROLEX Bloodhound SSC and will complete the on-board instrumentation mainly electronics.

The FIA standard stipulates that a land speed record is broken if the average speed measured in two opposing passes, each one mile long, through an assigned measuring point is equal to the assigned target, in this case: 1,000 mph! The "double passage" rule was introduced in 1914 to compensate for any effects due to a tailwind in one of the two directions.
